The Stone-Buhr brand has a rich heritage, dating back to the beginning of the twentieth century in Seattle, Washington.  Our loyal customers are found throughout the country, particularly the western United States because of our long tradition of producing highest quality cereals at a locally-owned company.  The Stone-Buhr brand dates back to 1902 when an enterprising gentleman set up a mill to mill flour for local bakeries.  The milling machine was run by river water that powered two granite stones.  Actually, granite grinding stones date back to biblical times.  One stone was placed on top of the other with the bottom stone being stationary and the top stone rotating to crush the grain.  In later years the stones were redesigned to grind vertically, however, the basic milling concept has remained the same.  During the depression in the early 1930’s following the market crash of 1929 the mill ground flour for homemakers in the Seattle area.  Later the mill began making breakfast cereals from ground oats, barley, wheat and rye.  This was the forerunner to our current 4 Grain Cereal Mates still sold today.  Over the years, Stone-Buhr products have become a staple for nutrition conscious people in the Pacific Northwest and around the country.  The Stone-Buhr name has always been synonymous with premium quality grains.  We purchase only the finest ingredients and stay as chemical free as we can.  We owe this to you, our customers.
